Salt Lake County Search and Rescue workers on Tuesday helped to safety a father and daughter who got lost during a hike on Mount Olympus.
Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the father, 32, and his 10-year-old daughter had left for their hike about 5 a.m. Tuesday and successfully reached the summit. On their way back down, however, they took a wrong turn and ended up stuck on a cliffside in nearby Heughes Canyon.
Hoyal said the father called his wife, who then called 911. UPD officers then contacted the father on his cell phone directly.
About 1 p.m., search and rescue crews set out on foot to where the pair were believed to be stranded. Hoyal said a Department of Public Safety helicopter also joined the effort by flying a crew to the scene.
The rescue crews got the pair safely off the cliff and then walked with them down the mountain, Hoyal said.
At about 4 p.m., they reached the bottom, where they were checked by a medical team and released.
"They were fine," Hoyal said.
