A motorcyclist was in extremely critical condition after colliding with an SUV in southeast Salt Lake County late Tuesday morning.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the 35-year-old man riding a bullet bike was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe head and other injuries in the 11:06 a.m. accident near 900 East and Fort Union Boulevard in Midvale.

Hoyal said a northbound Ford Bronco driven by a 75-year-old man ran a red light and the westbound motorcyclist was unable to avoid the SUV, crashing into the side of the vehicle at approximately 40 mph.

Neither the driver of the Bronco nor his wife, who was a passenger, was injured.

Hoyal said there was no indication of speed, alcohol or drugs involved, though the investigation was ongoing and no citations were immediately issued.
