A 35-year-old man was still clinging to life Wednesday, the day after he and his motorcycle struck an SUV that had run a red light in Midvale.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the man, whose name was not released, remained in extremely critical condition at an unidentified hospital.

The man, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the 11:06 a.m. Tuesday accident, suffered severe head and other injuries when he collided with a Ford Bronco near 900 East and Fort Union Boulevard.

Hoyal said the Bronco, traveling northbound, was driven by a 75-year-old man who ran a red light; the westbound motorcyclist crashed into the side of the vehicle at approximately 40 mph.

Neither the driver of the Bronco nor his wife, who was a passenger, was injured.

The investigation was ongoing and no citations were immediately issued.
