A 1-year-old boy died in a motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon in Taylorsville.
The boy was riding with his father, 48, about 2:40 p.m. in the parking lot of the family's apartment, 4521 S. Bridgeside Way, said Unified Police Department Detective Levi Hughes. As they approached the apartment basketball courts, the father accelerated to "a high rate of speed," Hughes said.
The father attempted to turn a corner but lost control of the bike, Hughes said. The man and his son, who was seated between his father and the gas tank in the front of the bike, were flung from the bike. Neither was wearing a helmet, Hughes said.
"A 1-year-old should never ride on a motorcycle," Hughes said.
The toddler died at the scene. The father was taken to a hospital. He was expected to survive, Hughes said.
Investigators expected to prepare a case for prosecutors this week, Hughes said.
