President Barack Obama said, "Look, if you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own." Well, despite his insistence about infrastructure, help from others and that we all truly stand on the shoulders of giants, he is dead wrong!

I made Swedish potato bread today and my roommates loved it. I realize that somebody grew the wheat for the flour, that trucks carried it down government roads and that farmers were subsidized for the potatoes, oil, yeast, salt and sugar.

Still, all the ingredients would have stayed on the shelves, and Obama could have come over with his teeth chattering for bread, and I could have given him some flour to chew — but he doesn't get the bread unless I got there on my own.

I followed the recipe, cooked the potatoes, kneaded the flour, added the yeast, shaped it, put it under a towel, let it rise, rise, rise, put it in bread pans, cooked it, then put foil on it and cooked it. I did that on my own. It was my stewardship, using the ingredients that excited our taste buds.

I made the damn bread!
