If you are about to bet on cooler weather, be warned: your chances are akin to those of a snowball in ... St. George.

That southwestern Utah city's temperatures seem locked in the triple digits this week, with a high of 103 degrees predicted for Wednesday after Tuesday's forecast called for the mercury to peg itself at 102 degrees — even with the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms factored in.

Farther north it isn't much better. The National Weather Service predicted highs in the upper-90s throughout the Wasatch Front on Wednesday.

In Salt Lake, Davis, Weber and Tooele counties the air quality was graded at "Yellow," or compromised, for Wednesday. Elsewhere in the state the Utah Division of Environmental Quality flew "Green", or healthy air quality flags.

Salt Lake City's high Wednesday was predicted at 98 degrees, up one degree from Tuesday's forecast; Ogden looked for 97 and 94 degrees; Provo 99 and 98; Logan 97 and 95; Wendover 97 and 96; Duchesne 93 and 89; Cedar City 92 and 91; St. George 103 and 102; and Moab 99 and 96 degrees.
