Utah forecast: Still hot north and south, but wetter?

Utah's weekend forecast called for cooler temperatures in the north, continued heat in the south and the building potential for thunderstorms and rain showers in both regions.

The National Weather Service forecast temperatures in the low- to mid-90s throughout northern Utah Saturday, Sunday and Monday under increasingly cloudy skies, while southern Utahns expected highs in the high-90s and low-100s as thunderstorms and associated rains periodically moved over the horizon.

The thunderstorm threat prompted forecasters Saturday to issue a hazardous weather alert covering the western two-thirds of Utah that extended into early next week.

The storm system darting in and out of the state benefitted air quality, however, with the entire state rated "Green," or healthy throughout the weekend by the Utah Division of Environmental Quality.

Salt Lake City's high temperatures were forecast at 94 Saturday, 95 Sunday and 94 degrees on Monday; Ogden looked for 91, 93 and 92 degrees, respectively; Provo 95, 94 and 95; Logan 90, 93 and 92; Wendover 93, 95 and 94; Duchesne 86, 85 and 85; Cedar City 93, 92 and 89; St. George 107, 105 and 102; and Moab 95, 96 and 96 degrees.
