Three thrown from vehicle in Apple Valley rollover

A 13-year-old boy was critically injured Sunday after he was ejected from a vehicle that rolled in southern Utah. Two other people were also injured.

The boy was in an Isuzu Rodeo traveling east on State Road 59 in Apple Valley when the driver tried to pass other eastbound vehicles, Utah Highway Patrol reported in a news release.

The passing lane ended, and the Rodeo was approaching oncoming traffic. The driver veered back into the eastbound lane, lost control and the vehicle rolled multiple times, UHP said.

The driver, the 13-year-old and a 16-year-old boy were not wearing seat belts, and all were ejected, UHP reported. The 13-year-old and the driver, a 23-year-old woman, were flown to a hospital in Las Vegas.

The 16-year-old was transported to Dixie Regional with a broken leg and cut to his head. A 7-month-old who was fully secured in a car seat was not injured but needed to be extricated from the wreckage by a fire crew.

UHP said it did not immediately known if the victims are from Utah or elsewhere.
