The Utes wrapped up their fall camp Saturday with a modified scrimmage that gave the younger players more work than the veterans. Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said the veterans had seen enough live work. "It was a good camp," he said. "We got a lot accomplished and came out of it relatively healthy and now we come back out on Monday and get ready for Northern Colorado." While the depth chart isn't set by any means, a few players are separating themselves from the others. Right now Jon Hays would be Jordan Wynn's backup at quarterback and Jarrell Oliver and Kelvin York are "1A and 1B" to be John White's backup at running back. If the Utes were to play today, Whittingham said senior Miles Mason would start at left tackle and junior Percy Taumoelau would start at right tackle. Freshman Jeremiah Poutasi would be Miles' backup while the other backup spot has yet to be decided. Returning kicker Coleman Petersen has clinched the place-kicking duties over Nick Marsh. Quarterback Jordan Wynn was held out of Saturday's session, the third day in a row he has been sidelined, but Whittingham downplayed any concern over the durability of Wynn's shoulder. "According to the trainers there is nothing to be concerned about," he said. "There is nothing wrong structurally, it's just a tired arm. He has been trying to throw fast balls all fall camp, trying to put more zip on the ball, and it just got worn out." As for Saturday's effort, Whittingham wasn't happy with the quarterback play as they struggled in the two-minute drills. That area has been troublesome for the Utes all camp and needs to be improved, Wynn said. "We have to get better on offense," he said. "No one thinks we have arrived by any means." Defensively, the Utes feel set, even if they still haven't decided the depth chart for the linebackers and are watching other battles at safety. "It was a solid camp overall," defensive lineman Dave Kruger said. "We are definitely itchy to get games going. It gets old going against teammates after a while." Receiver Kenneth Scott left practice early with a shin injury that Whittingham said wasn't serious. The Utes will decide next week which players they want to redshirt. Whittingham said there were about a dozen guys who could redshirt. Freshman quarterback Travis Wilson won't be one of them, he said. "That isn't our mindset with him," Whittingham said. Asked about the preseason AP Top 25 poll in which USC is ranked No. 1, Whittingham said the selection was good for the Pac-12. However, he declined to comment on the Utes being left out of the poll. Utah was fifth in the "others receiving votes." Oregon is ranked No. 5 and Stanford is No. 21.
