A 52-year-old cyclist was struck and killed Sunday morning while riding in Taylorsville.
Unified police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the man, whose name has not yet been released, was riding westbound about 2:25 a.m. near 1600 W. Taylorsville Expressway (4500 South) when he was struck from behind by a 29-year-old man driving a Mazda6.
The cyclist died at the scene.
Hoyal said the driver did not see the cyclist, who was riding without lights, reflective gear or a helmet in a 50 mph travel lane. Hoyal said the road is not well-lit where the crash occurred.
Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the incident, but Hoyal said the case would be screened with prosecutors to see if charges are appropriate.
