Music • Second-to-last Twilight Concert features musicians who favor collaboration.

Folk-inspired singer-songwiter M. Ward headlined Thursday night's Pioneer Park concert, the second-to-last installment of the Salt Lake City Arts Council's Twilight Concert Series.

Colorado gypsy-rock band DeVotchKa opened the concert.

M. Ward is perhaps best known for his collaborations with the Monsters of Folk and She & Him (with Zooey Deschanel), but the 38-year-old California native is touring to promote his recent solo album, "A Wasteland Companion."

Nick Urata leads DeVotchKa, though most recently he has been heralded as the composer for one of this summer's most beguiling romantic comedies, "Ruby Sparks." The movie was directed by the duo behind another film Urata scored, "Little Miss Sunshine." He also composed the score to last year's Jim Carrey film "I Love You Phillip Morris."

On Aug. 30, Common and Aloe Blacc will perform at the final Twilight Concert of the summer — the first year the series has charged an admission fee. This summer, crowds have averaged about 17,000 people per concert, with the $5 admission fee.
