An Idaho man who ran into the back of a semi-truck on Interstate 15 in Box Elder County on Monday afternoon died at the scene, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Anthony Jackson, 31, of Boise, was driving a Ford Escape north on I-15 about 1:30 p.m. near Brigham City when traffic was funneled into the right lane because of a grass fire in the median, troopers reported. The Escape rear-ended a semitrailer truck that had slowed in front of it. The car then spun around the semi, striking a guardrail and a car in front of the semi, troopers wrote.

Jackson and his passenger, 28, both were injured despite wearing safety belts, troopers wrote. Jackson died from his injuries.
