Police are searching for Sandy teen Jade Thornberg, who has been missing since July 31.
Thornberg, 16, was last seen at her house that day, and told her sister she was leaving to go to a friend's house.
Thornberg has run away before, but police said she has always contacted her mother to let her know she was OK. This time her cellphone is disconnected, which raises an alarm, said Sandy police Sgt. Jon Arnold.
The teen also has a history of drug use, which heightens the concern for her well-being, police added.
Previously, Thornberg has stayed with friends in Sandy, Magna and Ogden after leaving home. She's also been known to hang out with family acquaintance Jared Morgan, 33, who used to stay at her Sandy home for short periods, said Arnold.
Thornberg is described as white, 5-foot-4, 140 pounds with blue eyes.
Her hair was most recently dyed dark purple, but police said she might have changed it. She has a tattoo of a scorpion on her thigh and tattoos on her back of a musical note, a peace symbol and a heart.
Police are asking for anyone with information about finding the missing girl to call the Sandy Police Department at 801-840-4000.
