Golf • Tiger Woods and Notah Begay III combined to shoot 9 under and lead the American side to victory Wednesday in the NB3 Foundation Challenge at Turning Stone Resort's Atunyote Golf Club in Verona, N.Y.

The 12-player field was split into two teams, with Woods and Begay serving on a West squad that also included PGA Tour players Rickie Fowler and Gary Woodland and LPGA Tour players Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson.

Woods and Begay, teammates at Stanford, took on K.J. Choi and Y.E. Yang in one of three stroke-play matches.

Madrid wins Spanish Super Cup

Soccer • Real Madrid took advantage of quick goals to beat 10-man Barcelona 2-1 on Wednesday in Madrid to win the Spanish Super Cup on away goals after the two-legged tie ended 4-4.

Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo put Madrid in control with goals inside 23 minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu to take advantage of Barcelona's poor start.

Lionel Messi curled home an exquisite free kick before halftime of another thrilling match between the Spanish giants with the league champions hanging on to beat the cup holders for the title.

• FC Dallas was fined by Major League Soccer's disciplinary committee Wednesday for improper bench behavior after a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake on Aug. 18.

Also. D.C. United coach Ben Olsen was fined an undisclosed amount for criticizing officials after the team's 1-1 draw against Philadelphia on Aug. 19.
