Man accused of pushing son off motorcycle charged in court

A Millcreek man accused of pushing his son off a motorcycle while eluding a police officer last week was formally charged in court Wednesday.

The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office charged Brian Eddis Johnson, 42, with two third-degree felonies and a handful of misdemeanors related to the alleged flight from police on Aug. 21 after a school shopping trip with his 13-year-old son.

Court documents filed Wednesday allege that Jones was speeding on his motorcycle when he was pulled over by a Cottonwood Heights police officer. He pulled over briefly, shoved his son off the bike and told him to run, charges state. Court documents also allege that Johnson hit the officer's motorcycle as he fled, causing the police vehicle to fall over.

Johnson allegedly fled from the area and was later found in a Taylorsville apartment by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Safe Streets Task Force. He was arrested Friday and held on a $55,000 bond. He was still booked in the Salt Lake County Municipal Jail as of Wednesday, according to a jail roster.

Prosecutors charged Johnson with aggravated assault and failure to respond to an officer's signal to stop, both third-degree felonies. He also was charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended or revoked license, speeding and driving without an ignition interlock system. Court documents state that Johnson is an alcohol revoked driver and was required to drive with an interlock system.
