Salt Lake City bank robbery suspect turns himself in

The suspect in a Tuesday Salt Lake City bank robbery has turned himself in.

Salt Lake City police Detective Carlie Wiechman said Oscar Mike Hoiseth, 27, decided time was running out and his arrest was imminent.

"He knew we were getting close to identifying him because we had good shots of him on the bank's security camera," Wiechman said Thursday.

Police declined to provide specifics on how and where Hoiseth surrendered himself, but a jail probable cause statement did note that, after being read his rights, he had acknowledged the holdup.

Still images from the robbery of the First Utah Bank at 115. E. 1300 South had been released to the news media and published online and on television news reports. The robber's face was clearly shown in the images.

Hoiseth was booked into Salt Lake County jail Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of second-degree robbery. He was being held without bail Thursday pending court proceedings.

Police allege Hoiseth walked into the bank at 2:12 p.m. Tuesday and presented a teller with a note demanding money, then fled on foot. Witnesses did not report seeing a weapon.
