More than GOP activist

I don't know Greg Peterson, and in no way do I condone the conduct or allegations that he is charged with. These are serious issues.

However, I question the headlines associated with the seven or so stories The Tribune has published in recent months about this matter. Another one today: "GOP activist requests delay in Wasatch County sex abuse case" (Tribune, Aug. 30). Every story has identified him as a GOP activist or fundraiser.

Most news stories identify people by their profession — doctor, firefighter, athlete, Marine, whatever. Yes, Peterson had involvement with several GOP events, but primarily he is a certified financial planner. I assume this designation does not carry the same wow factor.

Also, by using the GOP association, perhaps The Tribune is attempting to hit two birds with one stone. I'm just wondering.
