soccer • Patrick Nyarko scored in the opening minute and Daniel Paladini had a goal in the 19th to lead the Chicago Fire to a 3-1 victory against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday night in Bridgeview, Ill. Alex scored in second-half stoppage time to seal the win as the Fire (13-8-5) moved two points ahead of the Dynamo for third place in the Eastern Conference. Brian Ching scored in the 90th minute for Houston.

• In Frisco, Texas, Jackson scored in the 32nd minute and Kevin Hartman made a couple of key saves to lift FC Dallas to a 1-1 draw against Seattle.

• In Santa Clara, Calif., defender Ramiro Corrales scored his first two goals of the season to lead San Jose to a 4-0 win over Chivas USA.

Hunter-Reay wins GP of Baltimore

Auto racing • Ryan Hunter-Reay won the Grand Prix of Baltimore on Sunday, a victory that keeps alive his hopes of winning the IndyCar Series championship. Will Power could have clinched the overall title with a win, but the pole-sitter finished sixth in a race that drew nine caution flags and was marred by rain.

Power will take a 17-point lead over Hunter-Reay into the final race of the year, on the oval in Fontana, Calif., on Sept. 15. Ryan Briscoe took second, rookie Simon Pagenaud finished third and Scott Dixon came in fourth.

• Jenson Button coasted to his second victory of the season at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa, with Formula One championship leader Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton forced out after a spectacular crash at the start. Defending champion Sebastian Vettel finished second, trimming Alonso's lead to 24 points.
