Re "Rob Bishop: Insider can have clout in Capital" (Our View, Sept. 2):

Despite its reservations regarding Rep. Rob Bishop's views on the environment, the Wasatch canyons and our natural resources, The Tribune editorial board endorsed Rep. Rob Bishop for re-election in the 1st District, based on his seniority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

I guess protecting Hill Air Force Base and Thiokol outweighs protecting our natural resources, wilderness and water supply. The only natural resources Bishop is willing to protect are oil, gas and coal. Is his presence on the Natural Resources Committee a good thing for Utah?

If Bishop is too important to lose because of his 10-year tenure, then he will never be less important in 2012, 2014, 2016 and beyond.

The editorial praises Bishop's opponent Donna McAleer for her progressive views and past experiences, but the board thinks a rookie is too big a deficit. With that kind of thinking, we can never expect to see new blood from Utah.
