Cottonwood quarterback Cooper Bateman has been selected to the 2013 Under Armour All-American game next year, joining some of the top football prospects around the nation at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.

His selection was announced Wednesday afternoon.

It's another national event in a long line of such exhibitions for Bateman, an Alabama-committed senior who went to The Opening and Elite 11 camps over the summer. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN on Jan. 4, 2013.

Representatives for the game will present Bateman with an honorary game jersey at Cottonwood High on Friday at 10 a.m., in advance of the team's game against Skyline (Wash.). That game is scheduled to be televised on ESPN U starting at 7 p.m.

Although Bateman has gotten national recognition, he and his Colts teammates have struggled to start the season. Cottonwood is 0-2, and Bateman has only thrown one touchdown and run in one other.
