Sports briefs: Dish Network to air Pac-12 Networks programming

College sports • Dish Network has agreed to a multiyear deal to carry Pac-12 Networks programming.

The deal announced Saturday makes Dish Network the only satellite provider to offer the Pac-12 Networks programming, which includes conference football and basketball games.

Pac-12 Networks, which opened its football coverage Aug. 30, is televising 15 nonconference games and 20 Pac-12 football games this season.

Dish Network is offering Pac-12 Networks as a free preview for a limited time to Dish customers. Game broadcasts on Dish Network began Saturday.

Pac-12 Networks had previously reached agreements with major cable companies such as Time Warner, Bright House and Comcast.

Eddie Johnson scores twice in Sounders' 2-1 win over Chivas

MLS • In Seattle, Eddie Johnson scored twice, including the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute, and the Seattle Sounders rallied to beat Chivas USA 2-1 on Saturday.

It was the first time this season that the Sounders (13-6-8, 47 points) won after allowing the game's first goal.

Alex Caskey started the play that led to the game-winner with a short pass to Fredy Montero on the attacking left side. Montero, going stride for stride with Shalrie Joseph of Chivas, got a step in front of him and crossed the ball through the penalty area.

Johnson met it 8 yards in front of the net and headed it hard off the hands of goalkeeper Dan Kennedy and into the back right corner.

"If it would have hit my foot, I probably would have been a little more nervous," said Johnson, whose 13th goal broke Montero's single-season team record.

"It was a great ball by Fredy. I was just trying to get enough pace on it and get it down. I didn't expect [Kennedy] to get to it. I was just trying to get it down as hard as I can."

Vitaly Klitschko beats Manuel Charr to retain WBC title

Boxing• In Moscow, Vitaly Klitschko stopped Manuel Charr in the fourth round to retain his WBC world heavyweight title Saturday night.

The 41-year-old Klitschko won by a technical knockout when the bout was stopped by the doctor with 56 seconds left in the round because of Charr's bleeding eyebrow.

It was Klitschko's ninth consecutive successful title defense since beating Samuel Peter in his comeback to the ring in 2008. The Ukrainian improved to 45-2 with his 41st knockout.

The 27-year-old Charr, a German born in Beirut, dropped to 21-1.
