Provo • BYU starting quarterback Riley Nelson was relaxing on the sidelines by the third quarter as the Cougars eased their way to a 45-13 victory Saturday afternoon at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Although it took BYU (2-0) several possessions to move its offense into first gear, the Cougars always were widening the lead from the middle of the first quarter on.

A score by quarterback James Lark early in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach, 38-6. BYU had more than 500 yards on offense.

Weber State (0-2) scored on its only extended drive of the day, traveling 75 yards in nine plays. Josh Booker took the ball into the end zone from the 1-yard line.

Wildcats quarterback Mike Hoke spent much of the game dodging BYU's pass rush. Hoke wound up completing 13 of 26 passes for 91 yards.

Cougars quarterback Riley Nelson completed 18 of 29 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown in his half of work. Nelson also threw an interception to WSU safety Tony Epperson.

BYU opened the scoring in the first quarter when Nelson found Cody Hoffman on a 30-yard scoring strike.
