I am disappointed in the editorial endorsing Rep. Rob Bishop over Donna McAleer ("Rob Bishop: Insider can have clout in capital," Our View, Sept. 2). It essentially implied that McAleer is the better candidate but endorsed Bishop due to his seniority.

Having worked for former Rep. Wayne Owens during his first term, I can unequivocally say that he made a major impact in his first term. McAleer could do likewise. Look at the impact Chaffetz had in his first term!

In addition, the day will come when the Democratic Party will be in the majority again, and McAleer will have built up seniority.

As president of her West Point class, a businesswoman, a contender for the U.S. Olympic team and an amazing woman, McAleer has the potential to be a rising star and is committed to making a difference.

McAleer is also a consensus builder who can work across party lines. My hope is that after this election, both parties will realize that they have to work together to solve the problems our country faces.

With the dearth of women in Congress (17 percent), it's time to give this tough, bright and capable woman a chance.
