The board of the Utah AFL-CIO labor union has named Mike Lee its new vice president.

Lee takes over that post from Dale M. Cox, who automatically became president of the labor group after the death of Jim Judd, who was killed a motorcycle accident last month.

Lee is a training coordinator for the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office and founder of the union now called the Unified Police Federation AFSCME 45. He was elected to the AFL-CIO executive board in 2006 and as vice president of the Central Utah Federation of Labor AFL-CIO earlier this year.

Judd died after he was removed from life support following an Aug. 16 accident in Montana in which his motorcycle skidded off Interstate 15 and crashed.

The labor group will hold a tribute to Judd at 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Union Labor Center, 2261 S. Redwood Road.
