State colleges: Utah women's soccer team beats Portland State

Sophomore forward Katie Taylor scored two second-half goals to lift the University of Utah women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Portland State on Friday in Boise, Idaho.

The Utes (5-1-1) extended their unbeaten streak to six games and recorded their third consecutive shutout with the win in the Soccer Etc./Nike Classic at Boise State.

Taylor scored her first goal off an assist from Jenny Hutton in the 82nd minute, and scored again off an assist from Abby Groth 80 seconds later.

Goalkeeper Lindsey Luke made four saves to earn the shutout.

Nevada 3, Weber State 2 (OT) • In Reno, Nev., the Wildcats led 2-1 in the second half before giving up goals in the 74th and 92nd minute.

SUU 3, Western State Colorado 0 • In Cedar City, Savannah Spere scored her first career goal in the 24th minute, and the Thunderbirds (1-4-1) earned their first win of the season.

Westminster 4, York College 1 • Rylei North scored two goals as the Griffins (6-1) improved to 5-0 at home this season.

Men's soccer

Westminster 2, York College 1 • Ryan Smith scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute and also had an assist as the Griffins (4-2-1) beat the visitors from Nebraska.

Women's volleyball

Utah 3, Nevada 0 • Chelsey Schofield had 15 kills as the Utes beat the Wolf Pack to claim the Utah Classic championship. Earlier Friday, Shelby Dalton had 11 kills as the Utes beat Cal Poly 25-13, 25-23, 25-21 in the Utah Classic at Crimson Court.

BYU 3, New Hampshire 0 • Jennifer Hamson had 11 kills as the Cougars swept the Wildcats 25-14, 25-12, 25-11 at the George Washington Invitational in Washington to improve to 10-0 this season. Ciara Parker had 11 digs for the Cougars, and Heather Hannemann had 35 assists.

Utah 3, Cal Poly 0 • Shelby Dalton had 11 kills as the Utes won 25-13, 25-23, 25-21 in the Utah Classic at Crimson Court. Morgan Odale had nine kills and nine digs for the Utes.

Southern Utah 3, Weber State 1 • In Ogden, Analaine Mailoto had 16 kills as the Thunderbirds (4-7, 1-0) notched the first Big Sky Conference win in school history. Rebecca Fuchs had a career-high 18 kills for Weber State.
