Murray driver misses dog, but ends up in creek

A dog owes its life to the quick reflexes of the woman behind the wheel of an approaching car — and she was thanking Murray police for rescuing her moments later from Little Cottonwood Creek.

Murray police spokesman Kenny Bass said that just before 6 a.m. Monday, the 25-year-old driver swerved to avoid hitting the dog on Murray Boulevard near 4800 South. However, she was unable to regain control of her car before it hit a curb, plowed through a chain link fence and tumbled into the creek, upside down.

"The creek is low this time of year, so she was not in immediate danger of drowning," Bass said. "Officers were able to get her out quickly, and she escaped with very minor injuries."

The woman, whose name was not released, was treated at the scene.

The car was pulled from the creek a short time later by a tow truck, police said.
