Containing the run a key for Utah State against Rams

The good news for the Aggies: They have played well in the past two weeks against John White IV and Montee Ball, two of the best runners in the country.

That has to continue against Colorado State and former USU offensive coordinator Dave Baldwin.

Doing so will force un-healthy down and distance issues for CSU. Second and long, third and long if you will. Gary Andersen knows this, and has acknowledged that as well.

"You have to focus on the run first," Andersen said.

"We've played against some very good backs in the last couple of weeks and have been able to contain them. The offensive lines for the last two teams have been good, so we'll see how it works going forward. You have to stop the run first. Those kids are flying around and taking a lot of pride in what they're doing. It matters to them."

The Aggie defense is putting up nationally ranked numbers so far. They have been stout against the run and the pass, even against a good offensive line like Wisconsin.

USU will face what is a balanced offense on Saturday. If the Aggies can make a dent against the run, the rest of the defense can pin its ears back in pass-rush situations and try to force turnovers.
