A Park City motorcycle police officer was treated for injuries sustained in a collision with a deer.

The accident occurred just before 11 p.m. Tuesday as the officer was riding on Kearns Boulevard, according to Park City police Capt. Phil Kirk.

Kirk declined to release the name of the officer. He said the officer's injuries were not life-threatening, but that he suffered extensive bumps and bruises and continued Wednesday to be X-rayed and examined to determine whether he suffered any longer-term injuries.

It was believed the deer darted in front of the motorcycle from a nearby cemetery.

The deer was killed on impact.

The accident is being investigated by the Utah Highway Patrol, per policy involving incidents within city limits involving city police officers.
