Prep football: Box Elder runs over Sky View

BOX ELDER • Box Elder football coach Robbie Gunter nodded approvingly when asked about his game plan entering Thursday's game against Sky View.

Give the ball to running back Kyler Allen.

Simple, sure, but effective.

The Bees scored 28 consecutive points in the first half, mostly on the back of Allen, in a 40-22 win over the visiting Bobcats.

After Allen's fumble led to a Bobcats touchdown, the senior running back made amends by rushing for 129 yards in the half. Allen also scored the Bees' first three touchdowns, including a 32-yarder that tied the game.

"He did a great job and ran it hard. I thought he was awesome," Gunter said. "He's a great player, and I think the O-line is just getting off it and allowed him to get up in the holes and do what he does."

The Bobcats, who were led by a pass-heavy attack, scored the final nine points in the half and looked to be on the comeback trail before the Bees again took control in the second half.

The Bobcats took a 7-0 lead after a weird start to the game that included fumbles on the first three possessions — on three consecutive plays, no less. After Allen's fumble, Bobcats quarterback Braxton Godderigge struck for a 15-yard touchdown to Daniel Lemon.

Godderidge finished 24 of 43 for 241 yards, a pair of touchdowns and two interceptions.

Allen, who was used sparingly in the second half, ended up with 130 yards on 22 carries for the Bees.

The Bees moved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Region 5.

"It's that 2-0 [in the region] that helps us so much," Gunter said. "The other stuff didn't matter, but every week is a battle for the region championship for us."

Sky View has lost its last four after starting the season 2-0. —
