DVD • A tight thriller with a tinge of science fiction, "Sound of My Voice" proves a movie can do a lot with a little.
The plot centers on a couple (Christopher Denham, Nicole Vicius) trying to infiltrate a suburban cult for a documentary. Inside, they discover the cult's leader is a frail young woman (played by new indie queen Brit Marling, who co-wrote with director Zal Batmanglij) claiming to be from the future.
Batmanglij creates a foreboding tone in the suburban setting, and gets plenty of mileage from Marling's ethereal beauty and zen-like calm. The movie is at turns thoughtful and riveting, with an ending that will floor you.
