Re "American tragedy: Romney seems clueless, heartless" (Our View, Sept. 20):

Beyond all the hype about Romney's "clueless, heartless" 47 percent remark, including The Tribune's liberal, pro-Obama bias, is this truth: Many who receive federal assistance deserve it. That being said, too many do not deserve a handout. What they need is a hand-up with attached responsibility, where that is physically and mentally appropriate.

To those in the 47 percent who simply feel that it is their right to an entitlement with no contribution required, the words of Samuel Adams from a speech in Philadelphia in August 1776 about those who won't work for liberty best describes their future: "Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." That is the future under President Barack Obama's redistribution administration.

Perhaps The Tribune, with Pat Bagley leading the way, could at least make a token effort to balance its liberal agenda by presenting all sides of an issue.
