The Salt Lake County Council is accepting comment at a public hearing Tuesday on a $47 million bond proposal that would fund park improvements, if approved by voters in November.

The hearing is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the first-floor County Council chambers in the North Building of the County Government Center, 2001 S. State St.

After balking at Mayor Peter Corroon's initial proposal of a $123 million bond, the County Council agreed last month to put a significantly pared-down version before voters on the Nov. 6 ballot. As proposed, the 20-year bond would cost the owner of an average Salt Lake County home an additional $6 annually in property taxes, while a $500,000 business would pay $22 more.

For their money, county residents are expected to get $11.5 million for the Jordan River Trail, $10 million for a regional park in the southwest valley, $9.5 million for Parleys Trail, $6 million for Wheadon Park in the southeast valley, $5.5 million to buy park property in Magna and $5 million for Lodestone Park in Kearns.

If the bond is approved, that list could change if problems develop with any of the particular projects, the council acknowledged. If so, the council would have to approve any spending changes.
