The cause of an eastern Utah power outage was a matter of fowl play.

Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman Margaret Oler said Wednesday that an investigation into the outage, which left more than 12,500 Vernal and Naples area customers in the dark Tuesday morning, was a turkey buzzard.

"It apparently flew into a transmission line," she said.

That cooked the carrion eater's goose, as it were — and triggered the outage at 9:37 a.m. Tuesday. Repair crews had restored service to all customers by 11 a.m.
