A 22-year-old St. George man was in serious condition Wednesday, the day after he was stabbed during a purported road rage incident.

St. George police Officer Derek Lewis said the incident occurred late Tuesday night near 200 East and St. George Boulevard. While stopped at a red light, the victim and the 21-year-old suspect got into a dispute over an unspecified issue. Both men exited their vehicles and that was when the victim was stabbed in the upper abdomen.

Police learned of the incident when they were called to Dixie Regional Medical Center's emergency room, where the victim had been driven by a friend.

Just after midnight, officers tracked down and arrested the suspect and booked him into Washington County Jail. The St. George man was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail on one third-degree felony count of aggravated assault.

Lewis said the victim underwent emergency surgery and was stable. His injury was not considered life threatening.
