Search and rescue crews headed to Butterfield Canyon Friday afternoon to find a man who reportedly was having chest pains while on a hike there.
Tooele County Search and Rescue crews located the 58-year-old man and took him to a hospital by helicopter. Tooele County Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Snider said the man was about four miles southwest of the Butterfield pass. He was alert and talking when the rescue helicopter arrived to take him to University Hospital in Salt Lake. The man was still recovering in the hospital at 6 p.m. and was stable, emergency dispatchers reported.
Meanwhile, Unified Police also responded to a simultaneous rescue effort in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Hoyal said a 69-year-old woman had been hiking on the White Pine Trail and twisted her knee while going over some rocks. She was on the south side of Red Pine Lake, which is about four miles from the White Pine trailhead.
