Herriman • Quarterback Tueni Luepamanu says Herriman teammate Brandon Farmer is the "fastest dude in the state" of Utah.

After Farmer's performance Friday night, few can argue that.

The junior tailback returned a punt 66 yards for a touchdown and broke an inside handoff 83 yards for another score as Herriman routed Olympus 42-9 to tighten the race for the Region 7 title.

"He is the fastest dude in the state," Lupeamanu said. "I mean, 83 yards… I told coach [Larry Wilson] to let me run the quarterback sneak, but it would have taken me a little bit longer to get to the end zone."

Farmer finished with 127 yards rushing on just eight carries and scored the first touchdown of each half for the Mustangs (5-2, 2-1), who are tied with the Titans (3-4, 2-1) and Westlake, one game behind first-place Skyline.

"It felt good," said Farmer, who has five touchdowns this season. "I have to give a shoutout to my line and fullbacks. Couldn't have done it without them."

Herriman amassed 381 total yards of offense — nearly twice the amount of the Titans. The Mustangs intercepted two Corbin Anderson passes — one each by Sialao Mobley and Francis Bernard — and sacked the Olympus quarterback three times.

"Coach gave us the mentality that we have to have a shutout every game," Lupeamanu said. "We came out with that shutout mentality tonight, and almost got it."

Herriman struggled with special teams for the second consecutive week. After missing two field goals and an extra point in a 24-23 loss to Skyline last week, the Mustangs again missed a field goal and snapped the ball out the back of the end zone on an attempted punt for a safety.

Lupeamanu threw two touchdown passes — 14 yards to Jordan Drage and 23 yards to Connor Johnson. The Mustangs were held to minus-1 yard rushing in the first half, but finished with 225 yards on the ground.
