Riverton man charged with stealing grave markers

A Riverton man is accused of stealing metal grave markers from Magna Cemetery and trying to sell them.
A woman discovered metal head stone plates missing from two relatives' graves at the cemetery at 3500 S. 9200 West, police wrote in charges filed Monday. Employees at Custom Industries, a metalworker in West Jordan, identified two men who had tried to sell brass that appeared to be from graveyard name plates, police wrote.
One of the men, 36, admitted to police that he had stolen five or six grave markers and tried to sell them, but Custom Industries refused to buy them.
The man was charged with third-degree felony theft and misdemeanor attempted theft by deception.
