Nominees named to fill 4th District Juvenile Court vacancy

The 4th District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the juvenile court resulting from Judge Sterling Sainsbury's upcoming December retirement. The Fourth Judicial District includes Juab, Millard, Utah and Wasatch counties.

The nominees are: Brent H. Bartholomew, attorney with the Office of Guardian ad Litem; Scott P. Card, partner with Spencer Fillmore LLC; Alan B. Sevison, Assistant Utah Attorney General; Franklin Richards "Rick" Smith III, director of the Office of Guardian ad Litem; and Paul E. Waldron, attorney.

Written comments can be submitted to 4th District Judicial Nominating Commission Chair Craig Carlile at Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, P.O. Box 142330, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-2330. The deadline for written comments is 5 p.m. Oct. 12.

The Nominating Commission may request further information or conduct an investigation of the nominees after reviewing public comments. After the public comment period, the names will be sent to Gov. Gary Herbert, who will have 30 days to make an appointment. Herbert's appointee is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
