It was an emotional day for Mark Yardley.

Beaver's golf coach was stepping down at the conclusion of the Class 2A boys golf tournament after 15 seasons. But he passed along one last coaching tip before the beginning of the second day of the tournament Tuesday at Rose Park Golf Club.

"Go out there and make some memories—pack and cherish this day," Yardley said. "Finish what you started."

His players captured their third consecutive 2A state title, this one by 37 strokes. Rowland Hall and Grand finished second and third.

Yardley praised his players for being mentally and physically prepared for the tournament. They practice six hours a day at a horse track first running laps around it and then driving balls into the infield.

"Nobody works as hard as these boys," Yardley said. "All of them can shoot low and come up big for us."

Dallon Murdock, Braxton Williams and Hunter Hansen shot 146, 147 and 148 respectively for Beaver. The Beavers placed five of their six golfers in the top nine.

Williams said the team wanted to finish strong for Yardley.

"We told ourselves that we were going to dedicate this tournament to him," Williams said. "It was a big accomplishment for the team to shoot under 300 each day."

Beaver's 17-shot lead after the first day proved too large. Rowland Hall bested Grand by six strokes Tuesday to grab second place by five shots.

Rowland Hall's Caleb Chodosh won the individual 2A title with a 70-73—143. He finished sixth last year at the state meet.

"It was a fighting and grinding kind of day," Chodosh said. "In a strong field, you just have to make your putts and keep pushing through." —
