Here we are, well into the 21st century, in the middle of another political campaign, and we still have not achieved the promise of "one person, one vote."
The ancient and decrepit institution of the Electoral College lives on. But by gifting all the electoral votes of that state to the majority winner of each state, even if the majority is one voter, we leave half of the voters of that state disenfranchised.
We should abolish the Electoral College (it was created to please slave-holding states who wanted their nonvoting slaves counted as part of that state's population, giving them more votes), and we should institute direct elections of our president and vice president.
