Body of one of two missing men found in Lake Powell

Searchers using a remote-controlled submersible device have located and recovered the body of one of two men reported missing nearly two weeks ago in Lake Powell.

Todd Brindle, superintendent of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, confirmed the remains of Pejman Pourhassan, 40, were found 100 feet below the surface of the Utah-Arizona border area lake Wednesday about 3 p.m., near Gunsight Bay.

The discovery concluded a 13-day search for the Salt Lake City man, who was reported missing Sept. 21 after he jumped off his wake board and disappeared beneath the waves while swimming toward a house boat.

In addition to National Park Service employees, the search included personnel from the Utah Highway Patrol Dive Team, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Kane County Sheriff's Office.

"We appreciate the hard work and effort of everyone who helped with this recovery. The days were long and difficult, but all of the responders were working to help the family," Brindle said.

The search continued for a 58-year-old Scottsdale, Ariz., man who was last seen in the lake's Padre Bay area on Sept. 24. He had jumped into the water when his jet ski malfunctioned.

NPS officials were not releasing his name at this time.
