I read with dismay that the federal government plans to de-list wolves throughout the Lower 48 states ("Utah conservationists ask Interior Secretary not to de-list wolves," Tribune, Sept. 28). There is way too much hostility toward wolves.
In Idaho and Montana, where wolves have already been de-listed, several hundred were killed last year. If Utah gets control of wolf management, no doubt any wolves coming here will be killed, too.
Wolves are beautiful and intelligent animals. They are an important part of nature. I say, leave them alone and let them be wolves. If a wolf becomes too much of a problem, maybe it should be killed, but it shouldn't be killed just for being a wolf.
