Can't if you're gay

At last weekend's General Conference, LDS Apostle Dallin Oaks urged Mormons to respond to children who struggle with same-sex attraction, with "loving understanding, not bullying or ostracism" ("Mormon leader decries divorce, abortion, same-sex parents," Tribune, Oct. 6).
Ironically, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints enthusiastically supports the Boy Scouts of America and its ban on allowing gays to participate, either as Scouts or leaders. If that's not ostracism, I don't know what is.
Just imagine a 13-year-old Mormon deacon being told he can't join his ward's Scout troop.
