Ogden was a surprise contender in the 3A girls soccer tournament last year, when the Tigers rode their momentum all the way to the title game.
Everyone sees it coming this year.
The Tigers have played like the defending champions by winning all of their games and piling up goals while shutting out opponents. A lot of that has to do with Avery Calton and Kiley Porter, dangerous scorers who have combined for 40 goals this year.
Park City has given up only two goals against a tough region, and Spanish Fork boasts McKinley Brinkerhoff, who has an mind-boggling 41 goals this year. The more cloudy region is in the south, but Snow Canyon, Dixie or Cedar each could make a run. That's to say nothing of Juan Diego, which has back former 3A MVP Emily Bruder.
Class 2A
There hasn't been much to predict for the last three years: St. Joseph and Waterford seem destined to dance for the title every year.
It seems like a safe bet again: The schools are on opposite ends of the bracket, and each has a win and a loss against the other this season. The defending champion Ravens have gotten a lot of goals out of forwards Mitsu Miyashima and Caroline Coats. The Jayhawks have a scoring ace in Kate Weil, and feature senior defenders sealing up the back.
Summit Academy beat Waterford early in the season and could come into play. Millard didn't allow a goal in region play, while Manti came to the brink of a title berth last year.
