Appalled at Herbert | The Salt Lake Tribune

I cannot believe what Gov. Gary Herbert can get away with.

During a debate in front of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, when asked about his minority-business outreach platform, he stated, "I'm not into hyphenated names." It is unbelievable that anyone today would make such an insensitive remark.

I'm still trying to understand how Herbert received The Tribune's endorsement, with the newspaper's constant reporting of mismanagement at almost every level and how his policies are going to cost taxpayers millions of wasted dollars. I know many who work for the state who are appalled at his leadership.

In contrast, Gen. Peter Cooke is a moderate. He's one of the best candidates for governor we have seen in a long time. He cares about all the people of Utah. He will bring much-needed balance to this state.

If you are upset about behind-closed-doors redistricting, HB477 (which limited access to public records), federal land grabs, poor education funding or hindering Utahns' ability to petition the state, then a vote for Cooke is the best remedy.
