Union, CenturyLink continue talks on new labor accord

The union that represents some 13,000 CenturyLink employees, including 820 in Utah, said it is still negotiating with the company even though its contract with the giant telecommunications company expired last week.
Al Kogler, a spokesman for the Communications Workers of America, said union members remain on the job under a "day-to-day" extension of the contract.
CWA members last week authorized their union leadership to call a strike against the company if they deemed it necessary. However, Kogler pointed out that the vote didn't mean that a strike would be called.
Kogler said the union opposes a proposed increase in health care premiums and wants to bring more jobs back to the U.S.
