Utah missionaries by the numbers

Co-worker Jay Drew had a story in today's paper on the decision to lower the the age for missionaries to 18-years-old and how it would affect athletic teams. Utah coach Kyle Whittingham liked the decision, saying it would set a standard across the board. In case you are interested, the Utes have 25 players, including walk-ons, who are returned missionaries and have nine scholarship players out on missions.The players who are on scholarship and are returned missionaries are receiver Sean Fitzgerald, lineman Kala Friel, defensive back Mike Honeycutt, tight end Jake Murphy, kicker Coleman Petersen, tight end Dallin Rogers, lineman Junior Salt, lineman Tevita Stevens, tight end Westlee Tonga, linebacker LT Filiaga, defensive end Trevor Reilly and linebacker Jason Whittingham. The scholarship guys out on missions are offensive lineman Isaac Asiata, linebacker Jake Jackson, running back Harvey Langi, defensive back Austin Lee, offensive lineman Jordan Robles, offensive lineman Nua Poteki, defensive end Pasoni Tasini, offensive lineman Derek Tuimauga and defensive tackle Vaha Vainuku. - Lya Wodraska
