Slick Mitt

In an effort to woo women voters, Gov. Mitt Romney now promises not to enact any new laws concerning abortion. Actually, he didn't promise. He told The Des Moines Register: "There's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda." And that Etch A Sketch statement got a lot of play and headlines.

Later on the same day, Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul backpedaled and assured the conservative National Review Online that "Governor Romney would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life."

Interestingly, no mention was made of executive branch-issued regulations, nor of the biggest decider on a woman's right to control he own body: appointing a member of the Supreme Court.

It's just another example of Romney saying anything and everything and ultimately nothing to get elected. Who knows what he'll actually do? And it's another reason to vote for President Barack Obama.

Republicans used to whine about the Democrats' "slick Willy," who doesn't hold a candle to their own slick Mitty.
