Why does the federal government continue to celebrate Columbus Day? Many before Columbus landed on our shores. This is the wrong message for our children.
We will never know who "first" discovered what today is known as America. However, anthropologists and archaeologists have concluded that the earliest Americans arrived by the land bridge from Asia through Alaska.
If people and politics must have a holiday, call it "Discovery Day" (of land, sea, space and other worlds). That holiday is a keeper!
