FBI issues region-wide alert for child abductor

The FBI has issued a plea to the public throughout the Intermountain West for help in identifying and bringing to justice a suspect in a child abduction case.

The girl was kidnapped from the Park County Complex in Cody, Wyo., and later found and reunited with her family, Denver FBI spokesman Dave S. Joly said Thursday. However, the kidnapper remained at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Joly said the man enticed the girl into his vehicle by asking her to help him search for a missing pet.

The FBI did not disclose what happened after the girl complied.

The kidnapper is described as a 6-foot white male, age 55-60,185-200 pounds, with short strawberry blond or white hair and well-trimmed beard. He was last seen wearing a brown shirt, blue jeans and a tan baseball cap.

The man was driving a white vehicle, possibly an SUV, with gray leather-type front seats; the back seat and luggage area were set up with bedding.

The FBI and Cody police suspect the man may be living out of his vehicle. A black and red backpack along with a case of bottled water were tied to the top of the vehicle.

It was not known if the man was en route to Utah or any other specific state bordering Wyoming.
